The Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County sponsors a long-term care insurance program. Long-term care insurance will pay for care should you become disabled due to accident, injury, illness, or aging. It pays for the care to help you stay in your home and help you with everyday activities like bathing, dressing, or doing chores around the home.

Why long-term care insurance? According to www.LongTermCare.gov, approximately 70% of people turning age 65 can expect to use some form of long-term care during their lives. Health insurance does not cover the overwhelming majority of long-term care expenses, and BC/BS, HMOs, Tricare, and Medicare are all health insurance. Additionally, approximately 80% of long-term care takes place at home, in the community, and/or in group living situations such as assisted living facilities. This is not just nursing home insurance.
At any time, any one of us can have a life-changing event due to illness or accident. As we age, health conditions can change or manifest in ways we never thought would happen to us. Also, about 40% of long-term care services are received by people under the age of 65. This is not just old-age insurance for “seniors.” Not only are we living longer, but medical science has evolved to where we are living with certain diseases or medical conditions for years beyond what we would have just 30 or 40 years ago.
This insurance allows individuals or couples to fashion a policy that best meets their needs. There are also discounts available to couples/partners for living together or being married, for two-person households, and for preferred health.
