FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Local Indivisible Groups Host NO KINGS Early Vote Activations

On Saturday, October 17, Anne Arundel County will be the location of three of the more than 3000 No Kings: Early Vote demonstrations across the country to remind residents of early voting dates and the importance of casting your vote early:

  • Chesapeake Indivisible will host their event from 11 am to 1:30 pm at the intersection of Generals Highway and Bestgate Road in Annapolis.
  • Indivisible Glen Burnie will host their event from 2 pm to 4 pm at Glen Burnie Town Center.
  • Indivisible Odenton will host their event from 11 am to 1 pm on the corner of Route 175 and Gateway Boulevard.

The Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC) is an allied organization, supporting these efforts to encourage voter engagement in this year’s general election.

This latest iteration of the NO KINGS movement is focused on making this monumentally important election year the largest early voting year ever. NO KINGS aims to ensure that people vote early so that if any kind of interference occurs on election day, their votes are locked in and secured well in advance. Voting early also gives people time and flexibility to fix anything that goes wrong: a signature mismatch, a missing form, waiting in a line that’s too long, or not being able to make it if a shift at work runs late or a child gets sick.

“We don’t want anybody to be intimidated out of voting and having their voice counted. No threat of immigration enforcement or National Guard presence should keep anyone from voting. We’re encouraging all of our neighbors to vote early to protect their votes,” said Kari Alperovitz-Bichell, one of the event organizers for the Chesapeake Indivisible event.

“We want voters to cast their ballots early to make sure every vote can be counted. Vote early so you can check your registration status and make sure you aren’t purged from the voter rolls. Vote early so you don’t have to worry on election day about casting a provisional ballot. The earlier we vote, the safer and more integrity this election will have because we can prove the votes are valid,” said Angela Mezzomo, Chesapeake Indivisible Communications Facilitator.

“Voting early gives voters more time to support candidates who will support educators, public sector workers, and all working people. If you vote early, on election day you can help with voter turnout, driving neighbors to the polls, and poll watching to ensure election integrity,” said TAAAC President Kristina Korona.

No Kings: Vote Early events are nonpartisan and are designed to increase participation from all eligible voters. A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action.
