Know your Contract: Toileting

While your contract does not specifically speak to Unit 1 employees responsibility for toileting students, TAAAC past practice insists that Unit 1 employees are not responsible for toileting students unless it is explicit in their IEP. Work with your administration to support students who need toileting and communicating with families on this topic. Learn more below.

Future Advocacy on the Horizon

Coordination between Unit 1 (TAAAC) and Unit 4 (SAAAAC) staff is ongoing at the bargaining table and during the budget process. The goal is to pay TAs/TSAs to toilet students so no staff or students’ safety is compromised, and no students dignity suffers.

As this is budget-dependent and requires job description updates in negotiations, we encourage collaboration from AACPS to implement this change.
