If we pay educators more, everyone wins, and it creates a better learning environment.
One voter in Glen Burnie shared that as a parent, she knows her son is in the hands of educators for the majority of the day. Making sure educators feel respected and are well compensated for their work was important to her.
She was one of the 31% of respondents who said paying teachers a respectable wage was the most important issue for her.

Many voters are frustrated with book bans and agree that our librarians are supporting student learning conditions
"Book bans were crazy and that it was being driven by national politics that didn't care about what students need to learn," said one voter in Glen Burnie.
In Crofton, voters agreed. Our canvassers heard, "she was worried that [book bans] would limit students' worldview and thought that they are disingenuous and politically motivated."
Another neighbor agreed, sharing she finds it strange that "some people want to control curriculum based on political ideology."

When we don't invest in our schools, parents lose faith in the entire system
A father in Pasadena shared that when he has to take off work to ensure his child can get to school because of school bus shortages, it makes him question the entire district. His neighbor though, pointed out that better funding and pay would lead to staff stability and keep good employees in Anne Arundel instead of going to other districts.
Our canvasser reported, "She doesn't understand why some people don't want to pay teachers and it's frustrating when she hears people talk negatively about public school teachers because the majority of students go to public schools. She said bus drivers should also get a fair wage. she said she was willing to vote for anyone who would stand up for teachers and students."

Even when voters don't have young children in AACPS, they still care about Anne Arundel schools
In Glen Burnie, a parent of students who have since graduated from AACPS shared that he is an education voter because it is an investment in the community. Similarly, a teacher in Crofton shared that compensating educators does have an influence on the quality of education because when staff are stressed, burned out, and overworked, they can't provide the same level of support to our students.
At the end of the day, voters across the county were bonded by the idea that they just want what is best for their own kids.
"She said she sees how hard teachers work with her children, giving them special attention when they need and encouraging them. She said you can't put a price on that," shared a canvasser after speaking with a parent in Crofton.
