A Word from our Executive Director
Our negotiations team met with AACPS last Thursday to discuss the Career Ladder and come to agreements on a few key priorities.
Nominating Committee
The TAAAC Nominating Committee is accepting nominations for the following positions:
- Nominating Committee (which helps facilitate elections)
- Credentials Committee (which helps check Building Reps in to the monthly meetings).
- Sick Leave Bank Advisory (meets twice monthly to review applications - two year term)
- Calendar Committee - Elementary (meets with AACPS for input on the school calendar)
Legislative Recap
Our Government Relations Committee has been hard at work every Monday for the last two months meeting with Delegates and Senators to advocate for pro-public education legislation. There are still a few more weeks before the end of session, but we're hopeful to see progress on our endorsed bills including the Student Loan Assistance Repayment Program for Anne Arundel County, and the Freedom to Read Act. The bills we opposed are also likely to fail thanks to our advocacy. This shows our power as educators to influence public officials, and the truth that electing pro-public education candidates matters. We have SEVEN Board of Education seats to win in November, which means it will take all of us to advocate for the needs of our students, schools, and profession.
Foundation for Educational Excellence Scholarships are Open
Do you know a graduating senior planning to attend college or technical school? The TAAAC Foundation for Educational Excellence is accepting applications for the annual scholarship program. Eleven scholarships are available for $300-500 each. Recommendations can be made by ANY TAAAC member (regardless of whether you currently support the student or not).
BOND Academy Registration
This year, the TAAAC Racial Social Justice Committee will pay the registration fee for AACPS educators interested in attending the BOND Academy. The BOND Academy is a collaboration between The BOND Project and The Center for Research and Mentoring Black Male Students and Teachers at Bowie State University.

TAAAC Budget Season
It’s budget season for our union too! The Finance Committee will meet at the TAAAC Office on March 19, followed by budget hearings on April 9 and May 22. Building Reps will vote on the budget at the June RA.
