Following the announcement by Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell on Wednesday, May 10, that all AACPS staff will receive a $1,000.00 bonus, TAAAC President Nicole Disney-Bates released the following statement:
“As we celebrate teacher appreciation week, educators and school staff are excited for this sign of gratitude. Teachers, specialists, and related service providers should receive a salary reflective of their dedication and service to AACPS. Between this bonus and the budget proposal by County Executive Steuart Pittman, we are better able to recruit and retain the high-quality educators our students deserve.
“While we continue to experience the impacts of the nation-wide teacher shortage, this move by the Board of Education signifies a willingness to work with the union, to listen to our members and leaders, and to reach the goals set by the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. We look forward to continuing this relationship to collectively advocate for better wages and working conditions for all school staff.”
