Stronger Together: Education Funding for AACPS

Happy New Year, Public Education Allies!

Believe it or not, Anne Arundel County’s FY2027 budget season is fully underway. You still have several opportunities to make your voice heard! We are asking families and community allies to speak in favor of funding the school system’s increased staffing requests as well as increased educator salaries, along with pay for TSAs.

  • 82.2 Special Education Positions: If funded, this would fill the additional positions requested by the Board of Education last year to decrease caseloads around the county.
  • Additional Unit 1 Staffing Requests: The proposed budget includes 10 ELD teachers, 2 school counselors, 1 social worker, 1 school psychologist, and 1 PPW, which will also help reduce workloads.
  • $510,000 for TSA Pay Increase: The more we retain TSAs, the more support we can give for special education students and the more manageable classroom behaviors become, especially at the elementary level. COLA and Step Increase: We are currently advocating to the school board for an amendment to the proposed 2% COLA that will at least keep up with inflation.

The next County Executive’s District 4 Budget Town Hall is this Thursday. CLICK HERE to RSVP to attend. We definitely need to be sure there are voices in support of public education so please sign up! Districts 1, 2, 3, and 6, as well as the Virtual/Spanish Language Town Halls are in the next few weeks. Sign up for each of those opportunities are listed below. Your ongoing support helps strengthen public schools!

In solidarity,
