To avoid entering lost time status you should do the following:
- Read and understand your leave options detailed in Articles 5 (Sick Leave),6 (Sabatical Leave), 7(Leaves of Absence), and 8(Other Leaves) of our contract.
- Maintain communication with your supervisor if unexpected emergencies arise. Supervisors, including principals, have the authority to grant you approved unpaid leave.
- Contact your UniServ Director at (410) 224-3330 if you have specific questions or would like clarity on your leave options.
- Members can also request approved unpaid leave in the event they exhaust all other leave options (Article 8N). This is approved on a case-by-case basis and is at the discretion of HR using their provided form.
FY26 Negotiations Update
8E. Bereavement
Each Unit I member shall be granted up to four (4) consecutive duty days of absence without loss of salary on the death of a child, stepchild, parent, stepparent, spouse, sibling, stepbrother, stepsister, aunt, uncle, parent-in-law, spouse’s grandparent, or one who has lived regularly in the household of the member. One of the four (4) consecutive days must be taken on the day of the funeral, memorial, or internment unless the funeral, memorial, or internment occurs on a nonwork day. With approval from the Superintendent or designee, one or more of the allowed days may be used at a time that is not immediately proximate to the date of death for a burial or memorial service that occurs at a later date. Upon written request from the member, stating the circumstances which made additional time necessary, the Superintendent or designee may authorize an additional day.
8I. Annual Leave
Annual leave for 12-month Unit I members shall be accrued as follows:
- Annual leave shall be earned at the rate of one (1) day per pay period of employment. Annual leave shall be accounted for in hours with the minimum increment for usage being one-half day. Anomalies in the weekly schedule of individual schools and worksites notwithstanding, one-half day equals 3.75 hours and a full day will equal 7.5 hours. A Unit I member may take annual leave throughout the school year upon approval by the member’s immediate supervisor, provided the leave does not interfere with the needs of the school system.
