Know your Contract: Cameras in Your Classroom

Sep 18, 2025

According to AACPS Board of Education Regulation, Anne Arundel County Public Schools defines observations as: formal or informal reviews and assessments of teaching while instruction is taking place in a classroom or other learning/educational environments.
AACPS BOE Regulation GBH-RA – PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND RATING – UNIT I

According to COMAR, Maryland Education Law and the TAAAC Negotiated Agreement, an observation, announced or unannounced, shall be conducted with full knowledge of the certificated individual.
COMAR 13a.07.04.03 & TAAAC CBA Article 16.B.1

Therefore, the use of a camera to review or assess teaching while instruction is taking place is inherently without the full knowledge of the individual and is in violation of the TAAAC Negotiated Agreement and COMAR.

If your administration is using cameras in your classroom in a questionable manner, reach out to your TAAAC UniServ Director to talk more.
