No Business As Usual: Anne Arundel County Labor and Community Coalition Join in Solidarity This Labor Day to Demand the Country Put #WorkersOverBillionaires

Labor Day 2025: A Day of Celebration and a Day of Action

Anne Arundel County, MD — On Monday, September 1, union members and community allies in Anne Arundel County held a solidarity cookout and day of action, joining over 1,000 cities nationwide organized by the May Day Strong coalition to demand #WorkersOverBillionaires.

The Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County organized an event with direct actions, speeches, and an art build to highlight and speak up for what students, working families, and communities need to be successful. Joined by members of the Anne Arundel NAACP, SURJ3A, the Right to Strike Coalition, Annapolis Pride, the Coalition for LGBTQ+ Students, SAAAAC, AEL, AFSCME 1693, Chesapeake Indivisible, Riverhawks United, AEL, UFCW Local 1994, One Pasadena, and other allies, educators called for the protection of public education, immigrant and LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors, and all working families.

From the fruit fields in California to the classrooms in Chicago and the loading docks of Atlanta to the neighborhoods of Anne Arundel County, working people are standing up to defend their rights and demand a country that works for all of us.

The people of the United States are protesting in record numbers against the billionaire agenda of firing federal workers, dismantling Medicaid, stealing wealth from public services to fund billionaire tax cuts, and creating an immigration enforcement system that is cruel and dehumanizing. Today’s event builds on the momentum from Hands Off, May Day, No Kings, and Good Trouble to insist on a country that fully funds its schools, protects Social Security and Medicaid, keeps families together, respects the rights and dignity of each person, and puts workers over billionaires.
