The Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC) has endorsed the Essential Worker Housing Access Act currently before the County Council. TAAAC President Nicole Disney-Bates released the following statement following the vote by the Representative Assembly:
“During the pandemic, our community saw educators as the essential workers we are. Expanding our roles from the walls of our school to work with our students and families to access food, WiFi, and mental health services, the AACPS employees were finally seen as core not just to campuses but throughout our community.
“Bill 78-23 is a step toward saying thank you to educators, school support staff, and related service providers, because not only do the families we serve need support, but so do we. Nearly half of AACPS employees work a second job to make ends meet. Pathways to affordable housing is the other side of the coin to higher wages when we think about recruiting and retaining staff in Anne Arundel County.”
