Weekly Update: I stand with my bargaining team

May 17, 2022

How many times have you had to cover a class this week already? How would it impact your students if you have even less planning time? How would your work/life balance suffer if you have more non-professional duties?

The Board of Education’s negotiations team has proposals at the table to increase planning time, remove the weekly limit of professional duties, cancel pay for sub coverage, and more that hurt out students and our profession.

We need to show up tomorrow to the Board of Education to tell our elected leaders how their decisions impact us and our students. Can you be there?

If you can’t make it, take two minutes to send an email to Board members. Click here for a draft with text to edit! We’re also collecting photos like the ones above. At schools across the county, you’ll see flyers to show support for our bargaining team at the table next week! Reply to this email with yours!

Tomorrow is also the County Council Budget hearing. County Executive Steuart Pittman proposed a 4% COLA and one step increase for all educators. I’ll be testifying there, so stay tuned to watch the recording later this week! If you can attend in person, it’s at North County High School, and you can submit written testimony here!

Check out the other events below and stay tuned for updates from our bargaining team next week!
