Anne Arundel Medical Center, CareFirst

Jul 18, 2017

Employees,

Yesterday, as many of you know, Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) announced that it has issued a notice of intent to terminate its contract with CareFirst if terms of a new agreement cannot be worked out. The first parts of such a termination action would take place in October of 2017, with other elements becoming effective in January of 2018.

Both AAMC and CareFirst are valued partners of Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the community at large. However, this is a contractual matter between those two parties to negotiate and resolve. We certainly remain hopeful that a suitable agreement can be reached.

If the two parties cannot come to an amicable agreement, most of our medical plans would likely be impacted to some extent in that services rendered by AAMC and its affiliates would be classified as out-of-network for employees and retirees with CareFirst plans. The exact impact of such an occurrence is impossible to detail at this juncture.

Please know that we have been in contact with both parties and our Division of Human Resources will continue to discuss this matter with CareFirst and convey appropriate information to all of you as soon as we receive it.
