TAAAC Statement on the Passing of Board Member Candice Antwine

Jul 18, 2021

The Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC) is saddened to learn of the passing of our friend, colleague, and Board of Education member Candace Antwine. Ms. Antwine was a strong advocate for our students and understood the importance of educators’ roles in providing the strongest education for all students. Ms. Antwine was the first Board of Education member to receive an election endorsement from TAAAC and during her service to the AACPS community, she included the needs of educators in her work.

President Russell Leone stated,

“Ms. Antwine often communicated with educators and with me about how to support all staff in our work for students. Ms. Antwine led with great respect and compassion for others. She taught many about the importance of lifting up all students, especially our underserved students in Black and Brown communities. I will deeply miss our open and honest conversations about how to make AACPS better.”

We were plainly reminded yesterday just how precious life is. The things that bind and connect us are the only things that matter in times such as these. Our hearts are with Ms. Antwine’s family and friends, the entire AACPS family as we celebrate her life and contributions, and all who were touched by her gentle, committed and kind spirit.
