TAAAC Committees


Meet the Committees


All committee appointments are made by the President from the list of volunteers unless otherwise noted.

Bylaws Committee

The Bylaws Committee makes a continuing study of the Bylaws of the Association. It receives all amendments initiated in accordance with Article XIX, Section 1 and prepare such amendments with committee recommendations for presentation to the Association Representative Council in accordance with Article XIX, Section 2 of the TAAAC Association Representative Handbook (found electronically on an annual basis on a distributed thumb drive).

Calendar Committee

The Calendar Committee shall make recommendations to the Board of Education Calendar Committee. The TAAAC Representative shall be one Secondary Rep and one Elementary Rep. The rep is elected in accordance to the TAAAC Election Rules and Procedures.

Community Involvement Committee

The Community Involvement Committee shall convene as needed to plan, discuss and implement programs that involve membership in community outreach initiatives. The committee shall elect its chairperson.

Contract Action Team

The Contract Action Team (CAT) will meet twice monthly, or as needed, ahead of and during contract negotiations to advocate for better wages and working conditions in the public sphere. The committee will work to engage members in the negotiations process and educate members in buildings and union-wide meetings, and build a coalition of community support to increase the likelihood of a successful contract. The committee will be tasked with recruitment efforts for events such as the annual budget hearings and other meetings as necessary.

CREDENTIALS COMMITTEE

The Credentials Committee (consisting of eight members elected annually) is responsible for:

  • The establishment of a procedure for identification of the qualified, elected representatives and alternates to the Representative Assembly.
  • The seating of representatives or alternates at Representative Assembly meetings in accordance with Article IV.
  • The establishment of a procedure for making necessary changes in a representative unit’s representation within any membership year.

Concerns Committees

The Elementary Concerns Committee shall convene monthly at the Representative Assembly. The committee shall elect its chairperson. It shall be the responsibility of this committee to share concerns among members and report back to the President. The President will address issues with the appropriate Central Office personnel as needed.

The High School Concerns Committee consisting of 12 members, on for each feeder area, shall convene monthly at the Representative Assembly. The committee shall elect its chairperson. It shall be the responsibility of this committee to share concerns among members and report back to the President. The President will address issues with the appropriate Central Office personnel as needed.

The Middle School Concerns Committee shall convene monthly at the Representative Assembly. The committee shall elect its chairperson. It shall be the responsibility of this committee to share concerns among members and report back to the President. The President will address issues with the appropriate Central Office personnel as needed.

Early Career Educator Committee

The Early Career Educator Committee works with members with 5 years of less experience in the profession. The committee works to create socials and networking opportunities led by ECE members, including mini-trainings embedded at the request of ECE members.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee maintains supervision over the expenditure of Association funds. It prepares the annual budget to be submitted to the Association Representative Council at its May meeting. Open hearings are held before the budget is finalized in order to permit all members to participate in the formation of the budget. Adoption of the budget takes place at the June meeting of the Association Representative Council.

Foundation for Educational Excellence

The Foundation for Educational Excellence Committee Organizes the distribution of materials for counselors to share with High School Seniors who are applying for scholarships to attend college. The foundation awards three types of scholarships that are outlined by the chairperson.

Government Relations

The Government Relations Committee studies proposed legislation by the County Council, State Legislature or Congress of the United States relating to the objectives of the Association and recommend to the Association such action upon this legislation as the committee considers advisable. The committee may propose education legislation in the name of the Association upon approval of the Board of Directors or Association Representative Council. The committee works closely with similar units of the MSEA and the NEA.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The Instructional Professional Development Committee shall review and coordinate the Association’s activities and goals in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and professional development. The committee shall annually identify appropriate goals and areas of concentration. The committee shall elect its chairperson.

Membership Committee

A Membership Organizing Team shall review and coordinate Association activities and goals in the areas of recruitment and retention of members in the Association. The team will organize members to engage in activities that move the association forward both internally and externally. The committee shall elect its chairperson.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee (consisting of fifteen members elected annually) – The committee shall elect its own chairperson. It is the responsibility of this committee to secure nominees; prepare ballots; conduct elections and authenticate results. It shall further be responsible for the maintenance of the appropriate representation of ethnic minorities and classroom teachers and non-classroom teachers in the Association Representative Council. Any member of the Nominating Committee absent without acceptable excuse from three (3) consecutive committee meetings may be removed from the committee by a majority vote of the committee.

Racial Social Justice Committee

Formerly the Minority Affairs/Human Relations Committee, members shall make a continuing study of the local Association and school system. This study will determine the degree of compliance of these groups with association and governmental rules, guidelines, resolutions and objectives pertaining to human and civil rights. The Human Relations Committee will identify reasonable goals for the Association in the areas of human and civil rights. Additionally, the Committee shall plan and coordinate promotion and leadership training activities within the Association to assure full minority participation and voice in all committees, within each elected delegation, and in Association leadership. The committee annually identify goals and program actions for implementation.

Sick Leave Bank Approval Committee

One member of the Sick Leave Bank Approval Committee is elected annually in accordance with the election rules by the Association Representative Council meeting for a term of two years. The third member is appointed by the Board of Directors in even years at their August meeting.

Special Education Committee

A Special Education Committee shall review and coordinate Association activities and goals in the area of Special Education. The committee shall elect its chairperson.

Special Events Committee

The Special Events Committee review and coordinate Association social activities, including the annual Mills-King Awards. The committee shall elect its chairperson.

TAAAC-R

The TAAAC Retiree Committee shall serve as a body to promote the successful retirement of educators after their service to AACPS. They shall meet and elect a chair, vice chair, and additional leadership structure and continue to promote pro-public education policies that support current students and educators throughout Anne Arundel County.
